reid walked aimlessly around the open field. the sun was hot on his back, and thin layer of frigid snow covered a few inches of the ground, but not enough to put a damper on the day. the black herding dog hadn't known what to do that day. his buddy was off who knows where, and he had really nothing better to do that sunday morning, so he decided to go on an adventure.
his head held high he scanned the tall grass. occasionally he would pounce on a lone rabbit, or slow mouse, but he decided to take a rest and enjoy the taste of delicious fresh water from the local river.
reid stood with his front legs in the frigid water, letting it run past his legs, leaving nothing, but a small trace of moisture in it's tracks. his tongue once parches, cried in delight as he graciously lapped up the liquid. sighing mostly out of fatigue, the mudi sat delicately on the waters edge.
Sonia's body sagged slightly as she made her way along the field. The field was caked with snow and it came up to her shoulders almost. The city had gotten a good foot or so of the white stuff and now, the cold temperatures made it difficult for it to melt.
her lower jaw dropped, salmon pink tongue lolling out and resting over her bottom canines as she panted. each time she exhaled little puffs of steam rose from her nostrils.
the basque shepherd fae's tail wagged behind her like a banner as her long legs carried her forward. as she neared the small stream, she spied a male crouched down beside it, lapping up some water. come to think of it, she was rather parched herself and cautiously made her way closer, making sure that she kept close to the male, but not overly close. she crouched down and lapped up the water too, sighing in delight as the cold liquid drenched her dry throat. Sonia kept her ears pricked in case the male was aggressive or anything. she would be ready in case he was.
reid lifted his head, letting his droopy ears perk at the sound of an approaching canine. he glanced back, his chocolate toned eyes connecting with those of a unique looking dog. her coat was a light golden colour, and she looked unlike anything he had ever seen before.
the mudi could see the caution in each step, but she could see he wasn't a threat. reid preferred to steer away from aggression, and although if need he could easily turn into a vicious monster, he was just naturally calm, and easy going. "hello," he greeted easily. "what brings you to the river, today?" he says in his smooth way.
"Hi." she said cheerfully as her tail slowly wagged. "Nothing much just wanna explore. What about you? My names Sonia...what's your name?"
She tilted her head to the side curiously and waited for him to respond.
she'd not met many new dogs lately so she was always hoping for a new chance to meet someone and possibly come away with a friend or so. So far she hadn't had much luck in that department. The basque shepherd female's eyes flicked over the male before her. he seemed healthy even for a stray...which was saying something. most dogs were unhealthy and malnutritioned. it was sad, but that was the way it was on the streets without the humans here to help and lend a hand with care.
She preferred it that way though. no one to answer to nothing. it was best for her.
"i'm reid," he introduced himself in a gentlemen-like fashion. "it's nice to meet you, sonia," he said, his black lined lips turning into a charming little grin. his curly black tail brushed the tall snow, as he wagged it in a rhythmic beat. his breathe came out in ragged clouds of fog, and his paws stung with the freezing snow under his feet.
"no, not currently," he answered, shaking his head gently. his flopping black ears swayed on the side of his noble head. "what about you? do you belong to a pack nearby?" reid asked, with a slight tilt of his head. his brown eyes searching those of the femme, sonia.
