The pristine water of Sizor Falls, crashes over the razor cliff spraying cold mist into the air. At the bottom of the falls the water hits the sedentary water bellow forming a white foam, sending ripples out across the water's surface. In the summer this spot is perfect for a cooling swim and a relaxing day sprawled by the cool mist, but in early winter it was rather cold. This is quite clear to a medium sized she-dog who makes her way over the soft white sand that lines the water's edge. Her silky soft fur is a stunning reddish gold coloration broken up by the occasional patch of white. Around her neck sits a bright red collar with a shiny name tag jingling as she walked along. Her paws have a happy little bounce to them as she walks over the sand, its softness feeling welcomed on her paws after hiking the trails to the falls. She comes to a halt at the very edge of the water leaning down her maw to lap up some water. It is rather icy and numbs her tongue instantly. Brrrrr! She thinks, shaking her head with surprise, sending water droplets flying from her lips. Her plum of a tail wags behind her as she does so. Her darling brown eyes glance around wondering if anyone had seen her silly behavior.
Massive pines rose up in all their splendor about Cedar. It was winter so it was cold and their pine needles were shed, leaving a blanket of brown across the forest floor. Despite the obvious feeling of winter's darkness all about, Cedar felt giddy: he knew Sizor Falls was just up ahead and even though he hadn't traveled long to reach it, he still was thinking about the icy water filling his throat and shocking his senses. It was obvious though it wouldn't be mere water invigorating today. Cedar lifted his muzzle to the air, picking out all the different scents. Some were strong, like the pine needles and the muddy sand and the crisp water just passed the line of trees in which Cedar stood. Some were faint, like the smells of the dogs that had previously been here but they were almost non-existent. Then there was the one, the single one, that was so strong it almost made him bark a greeting then and there. Cedar crept forward and barely stuck his golden-furred head from between the trees. Across the pool was a female dog that looked almost identical to himself: she had golden fur that glinted in the sunlight and in a few places, the butterscotch pelt was broken up by snow white patches. She was a little smaller than him but she certainly was pretty. Cedar watched for a moment more as the she-dog dipped her muzzle to the reflective water and lapped up some of the icy liquid. She shivered a bit and shook her dainty head, sending droplets of water flying through the air. Cedar couldn't help himself when the chuckle rumbled in his throat. He made his way over to the she-dog, wagging his tail lower in the air; he didn't want to seem threatening and he had already startled her somewhat. He could tell by the way she watched him somewhat warily out of the corner of her shining topaz eyes. He dipped his nose into the water and drank deeply, allowing the sensation of the freezing cold water to enliven his senses.
"I'm sorry if I frightened you," he said after a moment. "My name's Cedar by the way."
As her darling brown eyes look around, they widen when they land upon another dog. This dog was so startlingly similar to herself that for one moment she thought she was looking at her reflection. She blinks rapidly to clear the delusion realizing that this dog though similar in color was indeed not her reflection. He had less white on him to start and was slightly larger, but he was a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever just like her! Since being taken from her dam and litter-mates Tilly had never run across another of her breed. Her beautiful reddish golden plume of a tail wags slightly as he comes up beside her to lap from the chilly waters. She watches shyly, surprised when he doesn't even shudder at the coldness of the water. Tilly's soft floppy ears perk up when he speaks, her cranium tilting to the side cutely. " O-oh its okay." She says in her sweet shy tone, her pinkish brown lips pulling back into a smile. " I'm called T-tilly." She adds softly, darling brown eyes on his. " Nice to m-meet you." She inclines her head, ears flopping back down to normal. Her reddish gold fur buffeted by a chilly breeze that sends ripples across the surface of the water before them. Tilly cannot help but shiver a bit, shifting her white tipped paws.
Cedar watched the pretty she-dog closely: the way the sun glinted off her golden pelt, the way she wagged her fluffy tail in a friendly manner but remained not cautious of the fact that he was a dog she had never met before but shy as if there was actually a part of her that wanted to get to know him better. He felt a warmth spread through him when she tilted her head and when she smiled. For a moment his ears perked when he heard her speak. There was kindness in her voice that he was not used to hearing from other loners. Maybe she wasn't a loner...
"Tilly is a nice name. It's funny, I've never seen another of my kind before besides my mother and my brother and sister." He looked out across the crystalline surface of the water, remembering the happiness that he had felt in the short time he knew them. It was more than likely he would never see them again. "That was a long time ago though. I don't usually see other dogs hanging around Sizor Falls. Where do you come from?" Again he dipped his maw into the cold water, this time shaking his head to try and rid himself of the headache brought on from drinking too fast. He wondered if the water really felt colder than usual or if it was this strange effect cloaking him, a feeling that made all his senses zing. It was something all together new to him, this sensation that made his paws feel warm even though he knew the white sand between his toes was cool from being so close to the water. This sensation that made him feel lighter than the breeze that toyed with Tilly's fur. This feeling that somehow made him wonder once more what it would be like to find humans he trusted.
Tilly watches the Cedar's ears perk up at her words. Once again making her think of her own reflection, her tail sways. She listens her own ears mimicking his. Her pinkish brown lips pulling back into another shy smile at his compliment on her name. " Oh its n-nothing special." She stutters softly glancing away embarrassed before glancing back up, her head nodding in agreement with the rest of his words. " Me neither... was s-starting to think I was the only one a-around." She says, her darling brown gaze watching him a moment before glancing out across the water at the cascading falls. The short moment of silence is broken by his question. Tilly's eyes flicker back to him watching as he drank from the icy water. Once again surprised when he shows no outward sign of how cold the water was, seeming to enjoy it. Just watching him made her shiver. " I-i live just outside the city." She starts resting her haunches on the ground as she continues, " I live w-with my house-folk. We visit here sometimes... w-well..." She sighs and there is a bit of sadness behind it. " We used t-to come here a l-lot for hikes but... not so m-much anymore." She shrugs her shoulders blinking her eyes and looking at her white tipped paws a moment. Annoyed with how much she was stuttering in the male's company. He must think I am a fool, she thought cursing her shyness.
Cedar hoped he was not making Tilly so nervous. He noticed her stutter and hoped it wasn't anything he was doing. Slowly she sat back; he did the same in the hopes maybe it would help her remain at ease. Curiously enough even though he had just met her, he knew he didn't want to scare her in anyway. Her quiet manner was intriguing to him, very much so. When she told him about her humans though, it made him turn away. A pain stabbed at his heart, so intensely he had to control his breathing to keep from gasping. But Tilly was watching him closely and as he didn't want her to think he found these words offensive in any way (he knew some dogs who would), he choked back the ache and responded.
"My man... My human, Logan, used to bring me up here too. We hunted together. I used to actually bring back the ducks for him! It really was the best time of my life. But... Then the Leak came and he got sick." Cedar stopped and took a shaky breath and looked out over the water and then at the falls. He listened to the pounding of the liquid and a small part of him, the part of him the replaced that which died when Logan did, wished he could be beneath those pounding waves never to surface again. He noticed this emotion with surprise because it had been some time since he had allowed himself to fell this way. "After he died, I ran away. I don't even know what's happened to him, what the other humans have done with him. I never went back to our home. I haven't really been around another human since." Cedar glanced at Tilly out of the corner of his eye who he thought was still watching him intently. This surprised him too. He shook his golden head and ducked his nose, pulling back his pink lips to give her a sheepish smile filled with a subtle sadness. "I'm sorry. I don't tell that many dogs about my human." He sat up straighter and allowed himself to smile brighter, enjoying it. "I guess I feel comfortable around you." He looked around. "Your humans aren't with you today?"
Tilly's words seem to cut like a knife into Cedar, like they had physically hurt him somehow. Her ears flicker back a little wondering for a moment if she had said something offensive. Then he spoke and she suddenly understood, her darling brown eyes going a little round. Feeling a pang of sympathy for her fellow canine. She could not imagine what she would of done if her humans had been killed by the leak. The thought made her belly sink and her heart ache. Her eyes watch him as he stares at the falls, her soft ears flickering back up when he finishes. " Oh... Cedar t-that's awful." She says in her shy tone, lowering her head a little. " I can't imagine..." she sucks in a breath of air shaking her head sadly. " I'm v-very sorry I did n-not mean to bring that u-up for you." She looks to her paws apologetically a moment then back up at him in time to catch his sheepish smile and apology. " Please don't b-be sorry, I don't mind." She adds quickly, and it was true even if it was something sad Tilly loved for others to share with her. She loved the company and just being able to listen to another speak. When he smiles again, she notices with relief that it is brighter than before. Tilly smiles sweetly in return surprised by his words and touched;no one had ever told her she made them feel comfortable. " Oh." She adds thoughts snapping back to his question her head shakes, her ears flopping about as she does so, the tags on her collar jingling. "N-no not today." She says trying to hide how much this disappointed her. " Just me." She gives a half shrug of her shoulders, her beautiful pelt billowing around a little in a soft breeze.
Feeling my way through the darkness Guided by a beating heart
Cedar watched the rise and fall of Tilly's small sloping shoulders. The breeze still played with her golden pelt and almost threatened to quiet her soft, sweet voice. It was like listening to a song he had once heard Logan listening too and even though it hadn't entirely made sense to Cedar at the time (a lot of the things the humans did didn't make sense), it was one Cedar liked the sound of very much. He could tell Tilly loved her people very much and for some reason, it had awakened that feeling in him again. He wondered if Tilly's people were nice.
"Well, here I am rambling on about myself. Tell me something about you and your people. How long have you live in Silent Grove? Do your humans have little ones? Why aren't they here with you today?" Cedar smiled again, hoping he was conveying the warmth that had flooded his compact body. He nudged Tilly gently with his shoulder, his tail wagging in large arcs across the ground. "I came here when I was only three months old! I came from the Old Land. I don't remember much of Novia Scotia. Now I've been here for four years. It doesn't seem very long compared to some of the other dogs I've seen around here though."

NOTES
Sorry for the lame post! I will hopefully have a spark very soon.
Tilly was not entirely sure she was happy with the turn in the conversation. Of late talking about he humans made her feel rather sad and lonely. But she did not wanting to end the conversation between herself and Cedar so she finds the words to speak. " Oh um... e-ever since I was a puppy. My h-housefolk came and got me and b-brought me back here." She gives a rueful smile as she remembers all the good memories with her humans. " They have t-two children actually." She adds in her shy sweet tone, her plume of a tail wagging a little at the thought of her human's kids. " The little o-one likes to u-use me as a p-pillow and the female one she b-brushes my fur." She giggles slightly forgetting momentarily that the children had not done this in what seemed like ages. Then his last question hits home and the smile that had lit up her face falls and she frowns a little glancing away at the cascading water before them. " Oh I well... t-they were just busy... that's all." She mumbles softly, shrugging her shoulders and trying to sound like she did not care. Tilly feels her ears redden a little at the touch of Cedar's shoulder. Something about the male made her feel rather flustered; not a bad kind of flustered but flustered all the same. She listens curiously as he talks about his past, her darling brown eyes fixed on his, they widen some when he speaks of coming from Nova Scotia. It was of course their breed's heritage but most were not direct descendants. She can just barely remember the stories her mother told about the land that their breed had once lived on. " You r-really lived there?!" She exclaims, darling brown eyes filling with curiosity. " Nova Scotia I m-mean... " She adds voice trailing off, a little embarrassed by her outbreak.
( OOC: Sorry for wait and this is not great, my posts have not been up to par lately. )
Feeling my way through the darkness Guided by a beating heart
Cedar watched Tilly quietly; he felt a sorrow flowing off of her and it suddenly made him want to make her feel better. This sadness, he could relate to it in some ways. Listening to her talk about the little ones though, it made him forget, if only for a moment and he wagged his tail alongside hers. Logan never had little ones of his own. He had a female human over one time, but one time they had gotten into a fight and Cedar had not seen her since. At Tilly's gentle prompting and her gleeful outburst, Cedar nodded his head.
"Yeah, I did. I was three months old though when they brought me here to Silent Grove. I remember how Mother told me that I was so very special, to be taken far away for a human to love me. It made me feel so good. I don't remember much about it. It was cold but it was beautiful. The air there was somehow cleaner. Then again, my perceptions might have changed since the leak," Cedar stated ruefully and with a smidgen of expected bitterness. The Leak had changed everything for him. Cedar shivered a bit with the breeze, which had picked up considerably since the two dogs' arrivals. It made Cedar think of how he had to find a place to stay tonight. He was pretty hungry too. He would have to hunt and then snuggle up because it was obviously going to be freezing again. His mind wandered as he stared off into the distance. It took him a moment to come back to current times, as he caught sight of the beautiful Tilly still watching him closely with those brown eyes. Cedar cleared his throat.
"I really, really hate to cut this short Tilly but I've got to hunt before I settle down for the night. It's going to be cold again and I still don't know where I'm sleeping. Can we do this again sometime?"
(OOC: No problem whatsoever. I've been having the same issues. As long as you and I are on the same page, it's all good. I'm sure we'll both find inspiration soon! I was wondering, how much does Tilly trust Cedar already? This might be a good opportunity to jump straight into the thick of the plot, with Cedar needing a place to sleep and everything. Let me know what you think!)
Tilly listens to what Cedar remembered of Nova Scotia, darling brown eyes on his as her soft ears catch his every word. She had always wondered about the place of her breeds origin and to meet someone that came from there excited her. " That's s-so amazing." She replies in her shy tone eyes sparkling as he speaks of clean air. This city was filled with nasty smells, she could just imagine living somewhere were the air was crisp and clean, not filled with chemical smells. Tilly feels the cold breeze pull on her silky fur, it chilled her right to the bone, causing her to shiver uncontrollably. She haunches up her shoulders against the cold, as her breath forms steam in the air around her head. Then Cedar's voice fills the chilly air once more and she tilts her head to one side. I cannot allow him to stay out in this cold! She thought, she had taking a liking to the male even if they'd only just met. He was kind and friendly, talkative too. With a shy smile she shakes her head quickly, " Oh d-don't be silly Cedar you can c-come stay with me." She stutters sweetly blushing a little. Wondering briefly what her humans would think of her company. They will like him, she thinks firmly. He is just like me. " I can s-share my food with you too, if... if you'd l-like?" She offers noticing for the first time that day she too was hungry. Her darling brown eyes stare up at him hopefully, she would really appreciate the company.
(OOC: Tilly is pretty trusting Had her invite him to stay with her^^ and I am glad I ain't the only one with writers block )
Feeling my way through the darkness Guided by a beating heart
Cedar's first instinct was to shy away from this idea. He knew he wouldn't be able to trust another human again like he had Logan. Now, here was the beautiful Tilly inviting him to stay with her, in her home, with her people. He knew he couldn't go with her but how could he turn the she-dog down? Her golden brown ears were already thrown forward eagerly, a slight wag in her fluffy tail, and her eyes? Her shining topaz eyes lacked any bad feelings; they threatened to pull Cedar into their depths. He shook his head slightly and looked away, mumbling to himself. The breeze picked up even more, nearly knocking Cedar down. It seemed as if it was speaking to him, speaking in the way it bit at his skin, in the way it made the calm water of the pool below Sizor Falls now whisper in a cacophony of encouragement. Go with her, it seemed to say. Cedar continued to look out over the water, the trees, dark and bare of their garrish green leaves. The forest floor, he knew would be cool to the touch. Somewhere out there was a place to stay the night, somewhere there was a rabbit that would hold him over through tomorrow, maybe the next day. This was what he now knew, this was what he was accustomed to. And yet, even as he tried to welcome this again, an image popped into his head of a roaring fire and a spot close to those flames. Without thinking, Cedar blurted out the question foremost in his head:
(OOC: So I get all excited thinking I've just made this incredible post and gotten my inspiration back and bam I'm not even to 300 words. Sorry for the short post and for having to wait so long. :P)
