((ooc: thread intended for promise only.))
Cara padded along the waterline, savoring the feeling of the water lapping at her paws. Her toes sunk into the sand with soft little squishing noises, and little bits of mud stuck to her paw fur, but she didn't really care. The sounds of the ocean- birds calling to each other, the waves rising up with quiet inhales and coming down with gentle sighs- was so comparable to the sounds of a river, it left an ache in her chest. The feeling of the cool mud against her feet, and the sunset's warm rays- it reminded her painfully of her old home. Her forest home. Her real home.
The slender white wolf found herself stopping to watch the sun sink into the ocean. The cool breeze on her face was nice. It was warmer here than the rest of the city, but it was still chilly- she had to fluff up her coat to defend herself against the cold the night brought as the moon peeked over the edge of the water. It's a full moon... she realized, and every fiber of her being was instantly set aflame.
"Howling at the moon" might only be an expression to some, but for her, it was so real.
"Look, stars!" she said to herself, jumping to her feet. Her tail wagged with pleasure as she gazed up at the dancing lights. She'd been right; it had been the city lights that kept them out of the sky when she was standing on the streets. Here, there was no light, only moonlight, and the sky was filled with the souls of spirits. Her pretty silvery violet eyes filled with stars as she looked at them, and despite the hunger gnawing at her belly, she felt a spark of energy. Throwing her head back, the beautiful white female released a long, clear howl with a single pitch, only falling quiet again when she ran out of breath. A joyous smile was spread across her face, and she howled again, feeling more alive than she had in the days since they'd arrived. Each and every note carried such happiness and spirit that you'd think she was witnessing the most wonderful sight of her life.
And maybe she was.
Cara wasn't expecting company, so she didn't even notice it when the wind suddenly changed direction and an unfamiliar dog scent drifted right past her nose.
