joel padded along the waters sandy edge. the pale dust caught in between her toes, and brisk wind blew up from the water causing a traffic of ripples. she sighed letting it push back her fur, as she sat quietly. the temperature was not yet cold enough to freeze the liquid, but it made it bone chilling as it lapped at the edge of her feet.
shivering slightly, she looked to her right where her white shepherd ghost friend perched. "it's beautiful," she commented, glancing over at the setting sun. it was only around seven o'clock, but with the earth going on the opposite side of the sun, it made the days shorter for everyone in little silent grove. it is indeed, clairce replied quietly.
joel continued to sit at the waters edge, gazing into the horizon as her mind played back to the good old days. the wind pulsing through her thick winter pelt, she couldn't help, but feel at peace with the world for just one moment.
Large white paws hardly made a sound as he came toward the water. Seeking to quench his thirst as well as get some peace. He loved water. Amber eyes found what he was looking for just as the sweeping wind set a femmes scent upon his nose. He let his gaze slowly find her as he stopped walking. Silent in the background her voice barely a whisper carried on the wind. He breifly wondered who she might be talking too. His instincts told him she was likely not a threat and he began to move. Curious to take a closer look at her and maybe have a friendly conversation. It had been two days since he had spoken with another dog. Especially a beautiful femme. Her thick coat blowing in the wind. He stopped several feet from her. Cocking his head he really took in her striking pelt. A crooked friendly smile played along his black lined lips. "Hello there" he said in an upbeat friendly way his deep voice rumbling from his chest.
(sorry im on my phone so theres probably some mistakes but i was eagerto reply )
joel kept to herself most of the time. she choose more remote locations than trying to hit the hot spots in little old silent grove, as she wasn't looking for attention and conversation. choosing such lifestyle had almost made her nocturnal in a sort. the stabyhoun would spend her days sleeping around in underground caves, and thick vegetation, and would wander out when the sun was starting to set. she spent her nights hunting or just going on adventures with clarice, but it seemed tonight the odds were not in her favour.
the scent of a male canine close by made her hackles raise. not only were all dogs on her radar list, but especially the cocky dominant types, as which she had stereotyped with the male species. she glanced panic stricken at her friend, who did no help at all for the medium sized dog. have some fun! let loose a little, joel, the white shepherd insisted.
joel was about to ignore the dead dog, and started to get up. she was definatly not going to confront this random dog, and so she figured she would go along with what he instincts told her to do. run! her ears perked, and her nose twitched with the anticipation of another movement. her hackles rose from fear, but with the wind raging you couldn't tell.
turning to the male's calming voice, her eyes looked him up and down. his white body was slim, but muscled. definatly a dog that could do quite the damage if he choose to, but it was something in his lyrical way of speaking that made joel decide to stay where she was.
"hello," she said shakily. taking deep breathes she tried to calm her jittering nerves, before waiting patiently for the dog to make the next move.
Erebus allowed himself to take a seat. Muscles rippling as he did so.He was pretty well built, with a sleek white pelt, black rimming his amber eyes and lips. His ears cropped close to his head twitched as she spoke. He could sense her fear, read it in her body language. He cocked his head ever so slightly. Curious about her. "I am Erebus.. What might your name be?" he asks softly. For some reason he wants badly for her to know he wont hurt her. Theres something about a damsel in distress that brings out his most charming characteristics. It brings forth his need to comfort his loving side. His amber eyes took in her form. Smiling at her ever so slightly, he didnt allow any emotion other than kindness to play onto his features or in his eyes. He needed her to know she would be okay in his company. That was Ere for you, he could be the kindest dog on earth, until you turned on him, or touched anything that was 'his'. Then he could be as malicious and vindictive as the rest, but only when he thought it fair. He was quite the gentlemen i most cases though.
joel watched cautiously, as he sat down she let herself get a little more reign, as she gazed into the depths of his amber eyes. she could see something in this dog, and it made her almost want to trust him. her heart said it was alright, but her instincts were still unsure as to whether this completely new dog could be safe.
she decided to at least try and make it appear as though she was okay with the stranger, who insisted he go by 'erebus,' breaking in on her once peaceful evening. mirroring his previous movements she cautiously sat on the cold sand, letting the wind continue to ruffle her pelt. "joel," she answered. her tone light and angelic, and almost subconscious, as though her mouth has taken over. "my name is joel," she repeated, this time using a full sentence.
joel didn't plan on completely giving up her authority, but she definatly didn't want to make the mistake of challenging him. it seemed right now, the best idea was to wait it out, and possibly see if there was a time in the near future where she could make a quick run for it.
keep talking, joel, clarice egged her on, and the stabyhoun couldn't help, but look up and give a silent growl with her burning eyes. of course, she knew her mediumship was nothing to be ashamed of, and she rather enjoyed the fact that she was special, but some people would use it against her. several have taken her in, in the past, just to use her gift before throwing her on the street. she may have been naive once, but not again.
her ears motored this way and that, as she analyzed every route out of the falls. figuring her first choice may be to just walk calmly out, she decided to put it into action. "i should probably get going," she tried to give him an apologetic look, but her fear probably overrides such emotion. holding her tail low, she stood, and glanced out into uprising wind storm. part of her wanted to let her legs do the talking and run, yet the other felt this erebus may be different, and yearned to stay for just a few more minutes.
Erebus watches her, seeing her try to rein in her fear. He wondered what or who could have made this beautiful fae so fearful. The yearning to show her she was safe grew a little stronger. Her name slid from her lips and he broke into that handsome lop sided grin. His heart sped up a little he kept his tail in check though as he prepared to speak to her again. He heard her faint growl and saw her eyes move to something unseen. Though he didn't ask, if she wanted to tell him she would he wouldn't push anything on her. Though he watched her as she prepared to leave. His mind whirring for an excuse to keep her, the words slipping from his jaw unplanned. "Wait, don't go" he said in that husky voice. Erebus tilted his head slightly to the left eyes seeking hers. He tried to make himself look as non threatening as possible. Though he refused to cower and show submission he did want her to know she was safe. He wanted to tell her she was safe, that he wouldn't hurt her. But he wondered just how many times she had been told that. No actions spoke much louder than words. "Would you stay awhile Joel?" He asked softly, her name melting on his tongue like warm butter. Soft and sweet was her name in his mouth. He have her an almost shy smile as he watched her. Hoping she would decide to stay and chat awhile.
joel watched as the dog begged for her to stay. for just the shortest of a split second she felt, almost wanted. as if, this erebus actually desired to be in her company. she gave a small grin, looking down at the white sand below her feet. she gently nudged some of the small particles away to form a small dent, before letting her chocolate eyes float back up to his.
"you want me to stay?" she asked cautiously. her eyebrow curved slightly, as she asked the white dog this. joel's fur slowly diminished to it's normal level on her spine. "are you from around here?" she asked politely, as she gently rocked back and let her rump hit the wet sand.
Erebus watched her as she weighed her options. Hoping she would stay. He had been alone long enough and he had a feeling she needed a friend too.So he let out a soft breath he didnt know hed been holding when she sat down. "Yes I do" he answered simply. Grinning at her. Erebus close cropped ears flicked forward as she spoke next. "No.. Not really. Ive been through here before. I travel alot. Though I'm aiming to settle down somewhere in this region. Are you from around here?" he asked curiously. He wondered if she might be in one of the packs though she seemed like a loner to him. He knew many dogs were suckered into packs far to often. He himself chose to remain independent. Being a more stand up dog he was often the one to take the lead. He watched her pelt begin to lay back down as the wind subsided. His amber eyes flitting to the setting sun, what a perfect time of day. He did love this spot.
joel gave a polite smile as he told her he wanted her to stay. it made her feel special, which was weird for this girl, she was always used to being alone, or with clarice, so that fact that someone else wanted her to stick around made her feel a warm sensation in her heart. she never really pictured herself as someone of whom others would enjoy being around. in her eyes, she was a extremely plain, simple, and rather boring canine. so, this kind of attention, especially from a male, was unique to joel.
giving a nervous look at the ground, before returning polite eye contact, she answered him. "i am actually from austin, texas," joel told him with a slight head nod. "i've tried to stay from the main hot spots, or will dodge the busy hours. i surely didn't expect to see anyone here,"of course, someone as handsome as yourself makes a small exception, but she decided to leave that second thought out.
smiling to herself, in that girly, flirty way, she quickly tried to wipe the look off her face. the setting sun's golden rays coated her fur in a golden shine. the heat felt nice on her face, and she couldn't help, but hold her breathe on the simply perfect moment.
His smile never faltered. Her voice was soft and sweet almost shy. It was music to his ears. And he liked it. He liked it quite a but. He listened to her speak. "Well like you I like to be by myself until I find someone worth talking to. And I think I may have found her." He said dipping his head in a nod as if to confirm to her he had. His eyes shines right along with his smile. His chest thumped a little wildly as she tried to wipe that extremely girly look off her face. He couldn't help it, he inched a little closer. Though he didn't come to close he didn't want to scare her off. He watched her closely to make sure he wasn't making her uncomfortable with his actions. "What do you do for entertainment around here?" He wondered aloud. His eyes twinkling.
if dogs could blush, her face would be tomato red. all she could do was sit there with the ridiculous grin on her face. she watched still with a cautious glint in her chocolate toned eyes as erebus moved slightly closer to her. she didn't move away, but she also didn't move any further towards him. in all honestly this was the closest she has ever been to another dog for a long while, well ever since coming to silent grove.
her breathe caught on the tip of her tongue, as she watched his amber eyes search her. she felt naked in front of this male, like she should put every ounce of her for him to see, but oddly, not exploited. the twinkle in his gentle eyes, made her stomach calm, and time slow down. his gaze couldn't amount to the light from the rising stars above their heads.
thinking about the solar system and the little astronomy she knew, joel looked up at the dazzling objects in the night sky. the sun had now completely fallen into it's slumber, giving a dozen twinkling stars the time to show themselves to all the watching eyes."it seems impossible at first," she told him."but as time goes on you find things to do. i often wander the deserted sides of town just to fulfill the craving for adventure," she confessed, slightly embarrassed by her child-like antics.
Erebus let his gaze slide to the sky as well. The stars were out in full force now. The moon shining it's milky white light onto her pretty pelt. It made his own pelt eerily white, almost ghostly. His amber eyes a fiery shade in his head as the moonlight struck his pelt. He welcomed it. It was one of his favorite times of day. That and dawn. He briefly remembered being told the story of how the sun died every day to let his his love live when he was a pup. He looked back to her as she spoke tilting his head slightly as he listened. "I get that. I too am rather restless. That's why i've moved around so much." He said softly. He didn't often stay in one place, though he stuck around some for long periods of time. He liked finding new places, looking for a good place to live eventually. And just filling his appetite for adventure. He pushed his white paw into the cooling sand and sifting through it. He smiled at her softly as he shifted his amber gaze back up to her. He wanted to move closer but he didn't want to frighten her off.
joel nodded gently. she wouldn't necessarily call herself restless, just rather curious, and slightly fearful. she hated commitment, and was often the dog to dodge such affairs. it was something about being depended on that scared the daylight out of her. the feeling of having death right around the corner followed her like a ghost, and than to add on, the thoughts of her dying while someone counted on her made her feel sick in the pit of her stomach.
she swallowed deeply, and moved her gaze from her paws, to the shining moon. it cloaked the landscape in a elegant glow. it's very romantic, clarice joked in joel's ear. the stabyhoun wanted deeply to turn around and confront clarice, about the simple fact that no one would ever love her, but she knew doing so would probably freak erebus out, so she settled with giving the air beside her a narrowed glare.
letting a short sigh escape her normally tight lips, she let her chocolate tinted pupils explore each twinkle of each star. joel's thoughts mostly consisted of what was for dinner, or where she would be sleeping later that night on an average day, but this evening it seemed all attention was on this dog. part of her wanted him to scoot just that little bit closer, but then the other part was repulsed by such desire.
as her mind bickered over the new course of action, her heart did the real talking. ever so slightly she just shifted her weight, so she was a small inch closer to the big canine. it wasn't much, but it was enough for this girl to feel the heat emitting from his white pelt, and to make a lone butterfly flutter crazily in the pit of her stomach.
Erebus watched her, taking on her beauty when she wasnt looking. He simply smiled when she did. And finally when her inner urges won out and she scooted a little closer he let out a breath he hadnt known hed been holding. That wicked half grin lighting his lips. His eyes danced turning the amber to flames. He came the tiniest bit closer to her. He could feel her heat and he was sure if the wind picked up her long pelt would brush his short one. He looked to the stars and back to her. "Its a lovely night" he said his deep voice husky as it rumbled from his chest. He felt an excitement in his heart he hadnt felt in a long, long time.
joel nervously smiled as the proximity of their bodies lessoned. her amber eyes wandered along his short white pelt, before landing amongst his glinting pupils. "it is," she agreed, giving a long glance up to the sky.
astronomy was unknown to the dog, but the twinkling stars were gorgeous, nonetheless. letting her mind clear of all those cloudy thoughts that often seemed to pool in the stabyhoun's brain, she took a deep breathe. her long sigh coming out in a quick puff of fog, before floating elegantly to the heavens.
